Toledo OH: October 30, 2017: Ms. Sandrine Mubenga, CEO of SMIN Power Group, was recognized as a “Most Influential Woman In Business and Government” in categories of Manufacturing and Engineering by CEO Magazine on October 21, 2017 at an awards ceremony in Ghana Africa. The accomplishment is featured in a commemorative hardcover magazine that is distributed in 57 countries on the African continent. “This year’s finalists and winners represent some of the very best we have had the privilege to recognise (CEO Magazine, 2017).”
The award recognizes Mubenga’s efforts through SMIN Power Group LLC to provide electrification, solar and green energy consulting, engineering, and project management services to those living in her home continent of Africa.

ABOUT SANDRINE MUBENGA:
Ngalula Sandrine Mubenga, PhD Cand., PE, MSEE, was born in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). As a young lady she almost lost her life in a hospital that could not find gas for their generator. This event prompted a life mission to bring electricity to the DRC.
Mubenga is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Ohio, USA with over 10 years of experience in renewable energy systems design and integration, electrical distribution and protection, arc flash mitigation, energy management, and construction management.
Mubenga is the former Electrical Engineering Manager at the University of Toledo, USA where she helped manage a total of $65million energy budget, saving over $5 million in utility costs. Mubenga has been an active IEEE member for the last 9 years. She was a co-founder of the Sustainability Energy Efficiency and Design Initiative. Mubenga has been an active IEEE member for the last 9 years. Mubenga was the IEEE Toledo 2010 Young Engineer of the Year. She recently served as the General Conference Chair for the 2017 IEEE PES PowerAfrica conference in Ghana.
Academically, Mubenga is a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering at the University of Toledo where she earned both Bachelor and Master degrees in the same field with honors. For a MS research, she hybridized an electric vehicle by integrating a fuel cell and developed a solar-powered hydrogen generating station. In the process, she earned the “University of Toledo EECS Department Most Outstanding Thesis Award”. For her PhD research, she is developing a patented battery management system for large Li-ion batteries energy storage that are used in electric vehicles and grid applications.
Mubenga was nominated as 2017 African Most Influential Women in Business and Government by CEO Magazine based in South Africa. She was also nominated for the 2017 Clean Energy Education Empowerment (C3E) Award, a program from the USA Department of Energy in collaboration with MIT Energy Initiative and Stanford Precourt Institute for Energy. She served as keynote speaker at the MREA 27th Annual Energy Fair(USA) and at the 2nd Sultani Makutano (DRC). She was featured in Forbes Afrique, AMINA , JeuneAfrique, the Toledo Blade, Portage County Gazette, Afrimpact, on France24, Congo WebTV.
Mubenga is passionate about finding sustainable solutions to provide energy to people so they can better their lives.
ABOUT THE STEM / NGALULA MUBENGA SCHOLARSHIP:
SMIN Power Group offers STEM Scholarships For University Students In The Democratic Republic Of The Congo, Africa. The goal of the STEM/ Ngalula Mubenga Scholarships are to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in the DRC so that men and women will be better equipped to make renewable energy a reality and fight climate change.
